Launch Services Program
Jenny Lyons is the deputy chief of the Vehicle Engineering Division in the Launch Services Program (LSP) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla., a role she has filled since 2004. She is responsible for leading and coordinating the Launch Services Program engineering efforts for the Delta, Atlas, Pegasus, and Taurus expendable launch vehicles.
Lyons joined NASA and the Kennedy Space Center in 1988 as an operations engineer in the Shuttle Processing organization. In 1993, she was selected as a member of the Space Station Redesign Team and temporarily assigned to NASA Headquarters. Upon returning to KSC, she was chosen as the NASA Vehicle Manager (NVM) for OV-103/Discovery. As NVM, she was responsible for planning and management of orbiter and integrated space shuttle operations for the orbiter Discovery. She was the first woman to serve as NASA convoy commander (NCC) for a space shuttle landing, and was the first woman to serve as KSC senior official for ferry flight cross-country operations of the orbiter and shuttle carrier aircraft (SCA). In 1998, she was selected as KSC's strategic planning manager. In this role, she served as an advisor to the center director and deputy director, as well as senior management, on KSC strategic planning policy, initiatives and analyses concerning present and future KSC operations and development. She also served as the deputy director of KSC's Human Resources Office from 2003 to 2004.
Lyons worked for Grumman Aerospace on the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) Program before joining NASA. Originally from Fairfax, Va., Jenny received her B.S. in aerospace and ocean engineering from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in space technology from the Florida Institute of Technology and an M.S. in engineering management from the University of Central Florida.
She is married to Doug Lyons who also works for NASA at KSC. They live in Cocoa Beach with their two daughters.
