Early in 2010 several advisory committees within the NASA Advisory Council were formed to provide useful input for NASA key management as part of the agency’s strategic planning efforts. One advisory committee, the Commercial Space Committee, has as its charter a number of areas including the responsibility to review and advise NASA on how best to encourage and promote the development of a commercial space industry; review NASA strategy and plans for stimulating a commercial space industry including the evolution of commercial capability for transportation to Low Earth Orbit/LEO and to the International Space Station; and review and advise on NASA’s strategy for partnering and collaborating with other federal agencies on commercial space.
