(Phone: 213/363-0255) RELEASE: 91-102 SCOUT/REX LAUNCH SUCCESSFUL NASA's 114th Scout launch vehicle successfully placed an Air Force Radiation Experiment (REX) into a 450 nautical mile polar orbit over the weekend. Liftoff occurred at 10 a.m. EDT on Sat., June 29, from Space Launch Complex 5 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. Launch was originally scheduled for Friday, June 28, but was delayed 24-hours due to weather. The 188-pound REX is managed by the Air Force Space Systems Division in Los Angeles. Launched by a Kennedy Space Center expendable vehicles team, Scout -- managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Md. -- has now performed flawlessly since 1975. - end -
