Sponsored by NASA, "NASA Tech Briefs" magazine and the Technology Utilization Foundation, TECHNOLOGY 2001 will showcase leading-edge technologies from the space agency and other federal agencies and their contractors, which U.S. industry can use to develop new or improved products and processes. Building on the success of the 1990 TECHNOLOGY 2000, the event has been expanded from 2 to 3 days and will include participation from 10 other federal agencies: the Environmental Protection Agency, National Science Foundation, and the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services, Interior, Transportation and Veterans Affairs. Created to increase the level of technology transfer to non-aerospace firms, the conference will feature experts who will discuss 120 technical advances with commercial applications in 15 critical technology areas -- advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, communications, computer graphics and simulation, data and information management, electronics, electro-optics, environmental technology, life sciences, materials science, medical technology, robotics, software engineering, and test and measurement. In government-industry workshops, federal agencies will brief attendees on their research and development initiatives and technology transfer mechanisms, spotlighting opportunities for industry to work with the government to commercialize technology.
