November 3, 1994 (Phone: 202/358-1779) Release: 94-184 TECHNOLOGY 2004 CONFERENCE OPENS NOVEMBER 8 Technology 2004, the fifth annual technology transfer conference and exposition, will be held Nov. 8-10 at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC. Sponsored by NASA, "NASA Tech Briefs" and the Technology Utilization Foundation in cooperation with the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer, the conference will showcase the latest technological advances from federal laboratories which have broad commercial potential in both the public and private sectors. More than 8,000 engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, representatives of federal laboratories, business and academia will convene in the nation's capital to attend nearly 100 workshops and to showcase technologies demonstrated by more than 250 exhibitors. Senior government officials will open the three-day event beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Scheduled speakers include Energy Secretary Hazel R. O'Leary, the keynote speaker; Transportation Secretary Federico Pena; NASA's Acting Deputy Administrator, Gen. John R. Dailey; Deputy Undersecretary of Technology for the Commerce Department, Dr. Gary R. Bachula; and Brig. General Richard R. Paul, Director of Science and Technology, U.S. Air Force Materiel Command. NASA has recently redoubled its efforts to improve the ways in which the Agency works with U.S. industry. "Agenda for Change" sets forth new policy to ensure that NASA programs contribute to the U.S. economy. "NASA is committed to a bright future for technology development and transfer. Technology is wonderful, but unless it is disseminated, we lose the advantage of it," said NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin. "Using the resources of space, and the technologies we develop to get there, will help better the lives of all the people of the nation and of the world," Goldin added. On Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, the 1994 Technology Transfer Awards Dinner will be held at the Washington DC Rennaisance Hotel. The dinner will feature remarks by Dr. John Gibbons, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
