Astronaut to Discuss Marathon Run in April 4 Interviews
HOUSTON - NASA astronaut Suni Williams will discuss her upcoming 2007 Boston Marathon run aboard the International Space Station during media interviews planned for Wednesday, April 4 at 1:20 p.m. CDT.
The Boston Globe and the New England Sports Network interviews with Williams will be broadcast live on NASA Television. No other interview opportunities will be available with Williams before the marathon.
Williams, an accomplished marathoner, is an official entrant in the Boston Marathon and will run the race on a station treadmill. She qualified for the race, along with fellow astronaut Karen Nyberg, as one of the top 100 female finishers in the January 2006 Houston Marathon. Williams will be the first astronaut to officially run in a marathon from space.
Due to the crew's work schedule, the date and time of her run on the station may not coincide exactly with the April 16 marathon on Earth, but mission control is working to match the events as closely as possible. For more about the space station, its missions and crews, visit:
