Kyle Herring Headquarters, Washington Feb. 6, 2002 (Phone: 202/358-4504) John Ira Petty Johnson Space Center, Houston (Phone: 281/483-5111) RELEASE: c02-b LOCKHEED MARTIN AWARDED $78 MILLION CONTRACT ADDITION In addition to existing work, NASA has tasked Lockheed Martin Space Operations of Houston to provide support to the Earth Observing System Program's Earth to Polar Ground Network project under the Consolidated Space Operations Contract (CSOC). The tasks associated with this effort include procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunication services. Specifically, the firm will provide circuits that will be used to provide data communication services between NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and the NASA facility in Spitzbergen, Norway; between Goddard and Gilmore Creek, Alaska; between Goddard and Poker Flats, Alaska; between Poker Flat Research Range and Gilmore Creek, Alaska. The new work is valued at $78 million, should NASA exercise the five-year option of the contract. If the option period is exercised, the contract will run through December 31, 2008. Most of the work will be done at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Ala., under the cost-plus-award-fee contract. -end-
