Lunar Prospector, the third mission in NASA's Discovery Program of lower-cost, highly focused Solar System exploration missions, was launched Jan. 6, 1998, to provide the first global maps of the Moon's elemental surface composition and gravitational and magnetic fields. The briefing will be broadcast live on NASA Television with two-way question-and-answer capability for reporters covering from participating NASA Centers.
