The Ares outreach team traveled to Utah for the originally scheduled test firing of Development Motor 1 on August 25. Despite the test being postponed due to a technical problem with ground support equipment, the outreach team was able to share the Ares story with over 8,000 people. Models of the Ares vehicles were on display, and a variety of Ares literature was distributed to interested members of the public.

The team also posted behind-the-scenes video for DM-1 to YouTube and Ares web sites and broadcast the DM-1 static test firing attempt on August 25, as well as the live firing conducted on September 10. The DM-1 news release, photos, videos, and live-streaming videos were posted to the Constellation, Ares, Marshall Newsroom sites, and YouTube, and photos were distributed to Flickr.
