The top false-color image from the MODIS instrument on the Terra satellite from February 15, 2013, shows the enormous burn scars left behind by the past two months devastating bushfires in southeast Australia. In the false-color image, the burned areas are obvious—bright reddish brown against green vegetation. In the true-color image (bottom) the scars are not as obvious, but can still be detected as brown patches.
