* Space shuttle Columbia was lost on Feb. 7, 2003. The next shuttle to visit the station was Discovery in July 2005 on the STS-114 mission during Expedition 11.
Kenneth Bowersox served as commander of Expedition 6 and conducted two spacewalks during his 5-1/2 month stay aboard the Intenrational Space Station. He also participated as a crew member on four previous space shuttle missions.

Nikolai Budarin served as flight engineer during Expedition 6. He launched with his crewmates aboard space shuttle Endeavour and returned to Earth aboard the Soyuz TMA-1. Budarin also lived and worked aboard the Russian Space Station Mir during two missions.

Donald Pettit served Expedition 6 as flight engineer and conducted two spacewalks. He returned to the International Space Station as a mission specialist during STS-126 aboard space shuttle Endeavour.
