Astronauts Evaluate Spacewalk Procedures

JSC2012-E-211718 (1 Sept. 2012) --- Astronauts Peggy Whitson and Dave Wolf evaluate in Earth's gravity environment some procedures for a zero-gravity space walk to be conducted next week by the Expedition 32 crew members aboard the International Space Station. At some point during the upcoming spacewalk, Flight Engineer Sunita Williams will surpass Whitson's total extravehicular activity (EVA) time. Personnel from JSC’s Mission Operations Directorate along with a handful of astronauts and engineers have been teaming to evaluate procedures for the unscheduled space walk. The need for a follow-up session of EVA eventuated when the two space walkers from Expedition 32 were unable to complete all their objectives on an Aug. 30 space walk. SEPT. 5 UPDATE: Williams eclipsed Whitson’s total early in today’s spacewalk. Photo credit: NASA
