Overview

    The Office of the Chief Engineer provides policy direction, oversight, and assessment for the NASA engineering and program management communities and serves as principal advisor to the NASA Administrator and other senior officials on matters pertaining to the technical readiness and execution of NASA programs and projects. Below are the organizational divisions within the Office of the Chief Engineer.

  • Advanced Planning and Analysis Division

    Advanced Planning and Analysis Division (APAD)

    The Advanced Planning and Analysis Division is responsible for developing engineering policy of the future, including development of engineering standards and coordination with other U.S. Government agencies and industry regarding standards.

  • NASA Engineering Training

    Academy of Program/Project and Engineering Leadership (APPEL)

    The Academy of Program/Project and Engineering Leadership contributes to NASA’s mission by promoting individual and team excellence in program/project management and engineering through the application of learning strategies, methods, models, and tools.

  • Engineering and Program Management Division

    Engineering Program/Project Management Division (EPPMD)

    The Engineering Program/Project Management Division is responsible for developing and communicating engineering and program management policy and processes, engineering audit functions, safety and mission success reviews and ensuring project success.

  • NASA Engineering and Safety Center

    NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC)

    The NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) performs value-added independent testing, analysis, and assessments of NASA's high-risk projects to ensure safety and mission success. The NESC engages proactively to help NASA avoid future problems.
